History of the King Cake
The King Cake is believed to Have Orginated in France around the 12th Century. These early Europeans celebrated the coming of the three wise men bearing gifts twelve days after Christmas calling it the Freast of the Epiphany,Twelfth Night, or Kings Day. the Main part of the celebration was the baking of a King's Cake to honor the three kings. A Bean, Pea or coin was hidden inside the cake. The person who got the hidden piece was declared King for the day or was said to have good luck in the coming year.
The Mardi Gras Season Begins on January 6th Kings Day. It has become a tradition to celebrate Kings Day and the Mardi Gras season by sharings a delicious King Cake. King's Cake are a gourmet cinnamon cake iced and decorated with sugar in the carnival colors for Purple(For Justice), Green (For Faith), and Gold (For Power). A Tiny Plastic Baby Representing the infant Jesus is inserted into the cake. Tradition holds that the person who gets the piece with the baby in it is obligated to bring a King Cake to the next party. The Mardi Gras season comes to a close on Fat Tuesday, The day before Ash Wednesday.
